Puerto Rico is, legally, part of the United States.
YET, GROWING UP IN U.S. K-12 Schools, we never learned about IT OR ITS PEOPLE.
IN AUGUST 2019, WE INTERVIEWED PEOPLE ACROSS THE ISLAND.
WE TALKED ABOUT TOPICS RANGING from sovereignty, to queer survival, to cultural workers IN revolution. We learned that puerto rico has its own history and vocabulary of "race." We learned that the future of puerto rico and the united states are deeply intertwined with each other.
LA Lucha IN PUERTO RICO features 11 stories about PUERTO RICO AND U.S. EMPIRE—alongside research and discussion questions—brought to you by choose's student team for free, summer 2021. THIS IS essential education for any american interested in racial literacy.
our special thank you to renowned public intellectuals Arcadio Díaz-Quiñones, ISAR GODREAU, and JIMMY SEALE-Collazo for making this resource possible. And Thank you, especially, to our beloved and brilliant student team members, loan-Anh pham and isabel valentín.
